We’re picky about touch points.  Handlebar shapes, bar tape, pedal size and feel underfoot.  Saddles are probably the most important touch point, but most folks are riding around on terrible cheapo saddles that feel like medieval torture devices.  "She’s a witch, make her ride the stock saddle on an All City!  She will repent!"

For hard off road riding, what the kids call ‘mountain biking’, a Brooks B17 isn’t always the best choice.  I still ride one on my mountain bike, but I don’t get ‘sendy’ unless I'm headed to the post office.  But if you bang around on rocks and such, a tiny bit of padding can sometimes be a welcome respite.  And the Chromag LTD saddles have that.  It’s firm padding, not squishy like salmon jello salad.  You want firm, because you want support.  You can’t walk around on really soft shoes.  Think about how hard it is to run at the beach on the soft sand vs the hard wet sand.  The latter is supportive, the former just gets in your shorts and NEVER COMES OUT.  

Rounded, longish nose, so you don’t get stabbed by the nose and you can move forward on short techy climbs without getting outta the saddle.  Wide, supportive back that’s flat, as good saddles should be.  Leather top, real stuff, not faux leather redolent of the dentist’s chair.  You can use this saddle on other kinds of bikes, but I’d generally point ya to ATB style bikes for this saddle.  Brooks' saddles are better for roadish stuff, as they’re even more supportive and smoother.
